A visit to Newport Beach for a VIP art factory tour and buying experience.
When our Gatehouse buying team was invited to Newport Beach California for an exclusive VIP tour experience of one of our favorite art sources, they jumped at this unique opportunity. Getting the chance for a behind the scenes look at the production that goes into every piece of art we bring to our showroom. Ultimately, meant for our customers lovely homes. While there they met some of the artists and craftsman as they bring each individual piece of art to life was simply "magical".
The weekend began with a wonderful dinner and set sail on a beautiful sunset cruise through the Newport boat harbor, mixing and mingling with the other VIP guests and the Art team. The group included furniture and interior design business owners from Colorado, Montana and even a fellow local Utah store from Park City, all enjoying the company of like-minded creatives making this night extra special and forming new business friends for life.
The next morning the group set off for the factory tour to see the entire process of bringing a custom order of curated art pieces to our stores. Watching every step in amazement at the many hands of artists, framers, printers, and other amazing and unique techniques this company takes to create such outstanding art in so many forms. We started out seeing the in-company artists painting and creating beautiful original art right in front of us. We even ordered some originals from these artists, carefully selecting the frame styles, and other details. These pieces are now in and currently available on our showroom floor.
Along with painters and sketch artists, they also have digital artists and graphic designers in house, constantly creating and designing fresh, new pieces. The energy of so many artists creating all at once was an amazement to witness. Once a piece is painted, they are scanned to be able to custom size, color and print each piece for added unique touches for each customer order. They can also print on several types of materials including canvas, linen, paper with torn edges and other beautiful mediums that add so much depth and dimension to every piece. Once our team chose the size and color of the art pieces they wanted, and what materials they wanted to print them on, they chose from a wide variety of frame settings to fit the design, genre and color palette of the art.
From there, the pieces go to the printing room where you can select the canvas style to have the art printed on. Choices included white canvas, natural canvas, wood, linen and various paper options to name just a few. From there, human hands take the printed art work and stretch upholster the work onto wooden frames.
Some of the artwork has hand embellishment or other hand work details, where even more in-house production artists delicately add paint strokes, clay, and leafing. After hand embellishments, it goes to the framers where the custom decorative frame adds the final details for a beautiful art piece ready to hang on a wall.
Our team had such a wonderful experience at this exclusive factory tour and love sharing all the details that we saw goes into each piece, making everything we order and sell to our clients all the more fascinating and special. Just witnessing how many hardworking hands each piece connects with in the factory was so special.
